ACIDITY
Ayurvedic Name: Amlapitta
Characteristic Symptoms
• Loss of hunger or false appetite, nausea, vomiting.
• Acidic eructation and a burning sensation in the chest.
weakness and irritation.
• Pain and tenderness in the upper part of the abdomen
• Aggravated pain on an empty stomach or immediately
after taking a meal.
• History of preference for spicy, fried foods, tea, coffee
and alcohol.
Haemorrhage might be seen in chronic cases.
Ayurvedic View
The 5 types are:
1. Caused by disturbance of vata or air body humor.
2. Caused by disturbance of kapha or phlegm body humor.
3. Caused by disturbance of both air and phlegm.
4. When there are sour vomits, heartburn and sour
eructation, it is called urdhavag amalpitta.
5. When there are associated symptoms of greenish or
blackish stools along with nausea and vertigo, it is
called adhog amalpitta.
Remedies
The fresh juice extracted from aloe vera is an excellent remedy. Take 20 to 30 ml twice a day, preferably on an empty stomach.
Take approx. 30 ml of the juice of white pumpkin with some coconut milk and mishri, 2 or 3 times a day.
Take 10 to 20 ml of the juice extracted from the amla.
Fruit on an empty stomach in the morning.
Add a few drops each of ginger and lemon juice to a glass of warm water; add 1 tsp of honey and take this drink twice a day.
Mix 1 tsp isabgol in a glassful of lukewarm milk and take at bedtime.
Coconut is beneficial in curing hyperacidity and its associated symptoms like gastritis, excessive thirst, and heartburn. Take coconut water 2 or 3 times daily for a few days.
Take 3 to 5 g powdered mulathee, along with cow’s milk. This is a good cure for acidity and also heals stomach ulcers.
Try taking an infusion prepared with coriander seeds with some mishri added to it.
Take fresh pomegranate juice in moderate quantities twice a day.
